Katrina Kaif's career took off last year and all her movie from Namestey London to Welcome did well at the box office. Katrina has now become the highest paid item girl in the industry with a whopping deal of Rs 1.5 crores for shaking her legs in Shree Ashtavinayak"s next movie Blue. The movie stars Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt and Lara Dutta.
Blue is being made at an estimated cost of Rs 100 crores. Katrina has confirmed the amount but did not call the song an item number but a special song sequence. Katrina had initially refused the offer as she did not want to be known as an item girl. She however agreed after she was offered a huge sum and some other scenes in the movie.

It sounds like reincarnation happening in real life but watching Deepika Padukone in Om Shanti Om made me search for something I saw in the past – the 'Peacock'. The spark in her eyes, the charm in her smile, the alertness in her face, the slenderness of her figure, the flowing costumes, all make her look like a 'Peacock'. Watching Deepika, you see a certain element of pride with grace.
In Om Shanti Om, I see Peacock dancing in the courtyard of King Khan's palace. The film is basically Shahrukh Khan's but Deepika managed to make her presence felt. Very much like its title, the heroine is the nucleus and she made such an impact that you see her in every scene. She is in fact the 'Peacock of Bollywood'.
No wonder she is the latest muse in the country. No wonder the likes of Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh adore her. But this is only the beginning, and she has a long way to go. Give Shanti a chance!

Shilpa Shetty was back in Bombay this week where her "house boy" served her tea, ran errands and held an umbrella to shade her from the sun when she ventured out of her family's sixbedroom apartment.
Shilpa certainly needed pampering following a series of damaging allegations and revelations in recent days about her private and professional life.
"Having been the subject of unwarranted media speculation, I feel the need to express my absolute shock," she said in a statement in which she denies having an affair with a married man, defends her management company now being sued over thousands of pounds allegedly owed to a creditor and claims she was not humiliatingly dumped by PR supremo Max Clifford.
The statement, which runs to several pages, is notable for at least two reasons.
It is perhaps the first time Shilpa has been forced publicly to defend her own conduct - and not just that of her own parents, who are currently facing extortion charges in India - in the wake of her near beatification following the Celebrity Big Brother race row.
It may also be, some critics suggest, the first time Shilpa, 32, has said anything for nothing.
Only the other week, for example, when she was helping to promote India Now, London's three-month celebration of Indian culture, journalists who wished to speak to her were allegedly informed that their publications would have to pay for the privilege, and that the privilege was likely to cost in the region of £20,000 - a story later denied by the festival's organisers.
So too was a weekend report that Shilpa had been replaced in her first "English role" - a romantic comedy set in Yorkshire - because of her high pay demands.
Either way, Shilpa's 800-word pronouncement portraying herself as the victim of an embittered female spouse and sensationalist press represent good value for money.
Behind her words, of course, is the ...
story of a career which may be showing signs of stalling.
How ironic that the apparent decline in her fortunes, metaphorically at least, should coincide with the decision not to screen Celebrity Big Brother next year as part of a major shake-up on Channel 4. It was, said the network, part of a wide-ranging strategy of "creative renewal".
Her latest film, Life In A Metro, which was premiered in Leicester Square in May, has grossed just £249,212, outside India, according to Screen International (Shilpa's "bored Bombay housewife" convinced one critic to conclude that the "gap between her fame and her ability is bigger than Jade Goody's mouth".)
Her autobiography will not be on sale any time soon (a publisher cannot be found, apparently) and her much-hyped musical, Miss Bollywood, will not be opening in the West End in October after all (in fact, no British venues have yet been booked for the show).
If Shilpa's popularity is indeed beginning to wane, many blame her domineering mother and her agent, who should, says someone who knows him, "have a market stall in Tooting".
"I genuinely thought Shilpa could become the first Bollywood superstar, but those around her made it impossible for me to do my job," said Max Clifford yesterday.
Could there be a worst time, then, for Shilpa to be accused of ruining another woman's marriage? Of all the unfavourable publicity, this is the most embarrassing and damaging. As she points out in her statement: "My culture and upbringing does not permit me to break up marriages."
Ordinarily, the claims made against her could be dismissed as nothing more than malicious gossip. Except that the person dishing the dirt is the "estranged and embittered" wife herself, whose husband, British-based Indian businessman and film producer, Raj Kundra, is now Shilpa's almost constant companion.
She and Mr Kundra, 31, Shilpa insists, met about three months ago - after Mr Kundra's three-year marriage had ended in all but name - and their relationship is strictly professional (Mr Kundra helped launch Shilpa's perfume).
But is that denial true? Millionaire Mr Kundra accompanied Shilpa to the Indian equivalent of the Oscars in Yorkshire last month and at one hotel in Bombay there is a glossy photo of the "couple" on its board of visiting celebrities.
Their obvious closeness prompted a member of Shilpa's entourage to ask Mr Kundra recently if they were in fact more than just "good friends", to which he replied: "Well, I'm working for her free of charge. Deduce from that what you will." Mr Kundra then "winked" at the aide who had asked the question.
"Mr Kundra has not yet divorced his wife, so there is no way the Indian public would accept their relationship, which is why they continue to deny any affair," said someone who is in daily contact with Shilpa.
Whatever the truth, allowing herself to become involved in a public slanging match with Kavita Kundra, the mother of Mr Kundra's baby daughter, does Shilpa little credit.
Mrs Kundra, 25, claimed in a Sunday newspaper that her husband's "friendship" with Shilpa had prevented any chance of a reconciliation for her. Shilpa hit back by spitefully suggesting that it was Mrs Kundra who may have cheated on her husband.
Speaking on the doorstep of her sister's home in Tamworth, Staffs, Mrs Kundra, sporting heels and designer sunglasses, said: "If this claim from her is true, I am curious to know why I am not facing divorce on the grounds of adultery."
Nor, she pointed out, did she and Mr Kundra split up a year ago, as Shilpa maintains, but in October, around the time the couple's daughter was born.
"This whole thing was quite distressing when it first started, but now it's just tedious. I don't want to be drawn into a "she said this, he said that argument" and that is what this is turning into. I just want to be left alone to concentrate on my daughter. She's the one who needs my attention at the moment."
This is not the first time, of course, that Shilpa has been accused of having an affair with a married man. She and Bollywood director Anubhav Sinha are said to have become close on the set of his thriller Dus in Canada in 2005.
When the director returned to India he left his wife Ratna, who later gave an interview to a Bombay newspaper under the headline Ratna Sinha erupts against her husband Anubhav and his "good friend" Shilpa Shetty.
Then, as now, Shilpa denied any affair.
It is difficult to imagine Shilpa attracting such damaging publicity today if she still enjoyed the patronage and protection of Max Clifford.
Instead, Shilpa is now being handled by Farhath Hussain, who modestly describes himself on his website as the "world's Number One promoter of Bollywood shows, a showbiz impresario extraordinaire".
Mr Hussain, whose "office" in Ilford, Essex - where for £400 a month, a receptionist can be hired to pass on calls and correspondence - has at least one major creditor. London law firm Carter Ruck (which gave Shilpa legal guidance) is seeking redress of about £10,000.
How did Shilpa, who is now worth millions, get involved with Farhath Hussain? In fact, Mr Hussain is said to be close to Shilpa's formidable mother Sunanda, and therein perhaps lies the answer.
"She is 100 per cent running the whole show," said someone close to the family.
"Shilpa has absolutely no say in anything. What Shilpa's mother says, goes. It doesn't matter what Shilpa's feelings are."
This was apparent from the moment her daughter emerged from the Celebrity Big Brother house earlier this year, and signed a lucrative deal with a newspaper for her "exclusive" story.
Shilpa and her mother were put up in a private rented mansion in Surrey. Mrs Shetty sat upstairs in the living room "issuing orders", according to someone who was present. By Day Two of the "buy-up", a housekeeper had to be hired to attend to her every whim.
"She wouldn't even pour herself a glass of water," said the source.
"Shilpa was a different person when her mother wasn't with her. She was outgoing and opinionated. I felt like telling her 'come on, you are in your 30s for God's sake. You need to take charge of your life'."
Back in India, of course, police have alleged that Shilpa's mother and father Surendra hired gangsters to intimidate a businessman who is said to have owed Shilpa £30,000 for taking part in a TV advertising campaign to promote his fashion company. They deny the allegations.
So what next for Shilpa? She has already met the Queen, and been feted by Tony Blair during a regal tour of the Commons. But as the rumours and accusations continue to swirl around her, it seems the unstoppable march of "Saint Shilpa" is faltering to say the least.
And since the redoubtable Max Clifford is no longer there to rearrange her halo, she will just have to rely on Mummy and, of course, the self-appointed "showbiz impresario extraordinaire" in whom she has placed so much faith.

With Tamil cinema super star Rajnikanth's latest blockbuster 'Sivaji -- The Boss' still running to packed houses in some pockets outside south India, the producers of the film have decided to dub it in Hindi and are planning a post-Diwali release.
'Sivaji -- The Boss' will be dubbed in Hindi as the response for the film in Delhi, Mumbai and other major cities outside South India has been overwhelming," said S C Babu, CEO of AVM Productions.
"Some portions of the film will be....
re-shot to cater to the Hindi-speaking audience and Rajnikanth will dedicate three to four days in shooting," Babu told.
Asked whether Rajnikanth will dub his voice in Hindi, said, "indications are that he is unlikely to do the dubbing."
However, the length of the film will be reduced to two and half hours from the existing three-hour duration as most of the Bollywood films do not exceed the time limit of 150 minutes.
Even though some of Rajnikanth's films were screened outside Tamil Nadu earlier, "Sivaji -- The Boss" got a rousing response from people who thronged theatres in major cities such as Delhi and Mumbai.
"'Sivaji -- The Boss' has proved that language is not a barrier when it is Rajnikanth," Babu said.
Swanand Kirkire is penning the dialogues for the dubbed version and is likely to finish his work by October.
"But we are planning a post-Diwali release. We don't want to release a dubbed version during the festive season," he said.

Can't say for sure. And even if Abhishek Bachchan is indeed becoming a daddy, shouldn't that be the Bachchans' private affair. The media, as expected, is lapping up the news.
Sample this news item in The Times of India - "Aishwarya Bachchan, is reportedly expecting and Abhishek is gonna be a dad. Amitabh Bachchan, meanwhile, is going to be the grand-daddy of them all!"
But this headline in the South Asian Women's Forum takes the cake - "Aishwarya carrying Bachchan bun in the oven?" Could you get any cruder than that?
Bollywood's most famous family may be denying the rumours but I am sure they wouldn't take too kindly to the headline on The Spoof - "New Aishwarya Rai wax statue shows her four months pregnant".
And guess what The Spoof has done to my story on a Casablanca adaptation being shot in India - "Bollywood Casablanca Remake To Star That Mohit Bloke". And do check out the photo of Aishwarya in that story.

It’s a distinctive instrumental music album binding the West and the East called ‘Miami to Mumbai’. Bringing them together is Shakira’s percussionist and music publisher Archie Pena along with noted Indian music designer Dhrubajit Gogoi.
“Archie is coming here next month and we shall start recording the music. We will have these singers giving a few vocal strains in the albums to enrich the music,” says Gogoi, who has designed music earlier for films like ‘Rakht’, ‘Page 3’, ‘Umar’, ‘Corporate’ and ‘Traffic Signal’ among others.
Latin percussionist guru Archie has earlier worked with Shakira on ...
Oral Fixation’ and Jennifer Lopez in her album ‘On the Six’, apart from working with jazz legends like George Benson and Paqito D Rivera and Latin pop diva Gloria Estefan among others.
“We have two top stars from the West who are very keen to feature in the album as well as the video that we plan to shoot. Dhrubajit and I are composing many numbers out of which we will select the best ones and cut the album from it. No one dares to do instrumental these days and this is the first time that an Indian playing the guitar is collaborating with a percussionist from the West. Usually it is the other way around,” says Archie.
Gogoi and Pena are now speaking to various directors from Hollywood as well as top Indian directors to direct the video. The bigger scoop, however, is that Shakira may just sing for Bollywood. Archie is currently in talks with a few Bollywood producers regarding the same. “I cannot reveal names now as we are in the final stages of discussion,” says Archie.

Sanjay Dutt's plea seeking time to surrender after he was given a six-year jail term in the 1993 serial blasts case on Tuesday was rejected by a special court that said he should be held in a separate cell in the Arthur Road Jail.
The court said it would hear on August 2 another application filed by Dutt seeking to be kept at the Arthur Road Prison in central Mumbai and not to be sent to a jail in another part of the state like the other convicts in the case.
Judge P D Kode also allowed the star to meet family members and close friends and to speak to his daughter Trishala who lives in the US.
Dutt was convicted under the ...... Law of ....
Arms Act for illegal possession of an AK-56 assault rifle and a 9mm pistol.
The actor told the court he felt he would get the benefit of the Probation of Offenders Act (POA) and his sentence would be waived, and hence he wanted to make certain arrangements before he was sent to jail.
"You (Judge Kode) are more than family for all of us," Dutt said.
However, Kode said it was not a personal matter and he was only doing his duty to uphold the law.
"I have seen you in the last 10 years and exempted you by giving concessions in all matters. You have utilised the time to the best and shot for movies, doing remarkably well in the film line. Don't be sentimental, be calm and quiet," Kode remarked.
Hearing this, Dutt said he feared for his and associate Yusuf Nulwalla's safety and asked that they be kept in the Arthur Road Jail.

Sanjay Dutt was on Tuesday sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for six years for illegal possession of weapons that were given to him by associates of gangster Dawood Ibrahim ahead of the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai.
Dutt, who spent 16 months in prison after his arrest in April 1993 and was free on bail, was also fined Rs 25,000 by the special TADA court of Judge P D Kode.
Dutt, who was seated in the back of the court when the sentence was announced, was visibly shocked as....
the judge gave the reasoning for his decision not to grant him relief under the POA Act.
After pronouncing the sentence, the court cancelled the bail granted to Dutt and told police to take him into custody.
Dutt was convicted in November last year under the Arms Act for the illegal possession of a 9mm pistol and an AK-56 rifle but was acquitted of more serious terrorism charges under the stringent TADA law.
Initially, the court granted Dutt's associate Rusi Mulla benefit under the POA Act but then announced that the actor and two others would not be eligible to get relief under the same law.
The court observed that Dutt had not merely committed a criminal act but also told three others to commit criminal acts on his behalf.
After a court clerk read out the sentence, Dutt was seen chatting with fellow convicts and friends Yusuf Nulwalla and Kersi Adajania.
Commenting upon affidavits filed by public personalities like actor Dilip Kumar in support of Dutt, Judge Kode said these are of no use if there is material that says that the actor has indulged in a criminal act.

Bollywood is going more than half way to meet Hollywood’s advances. With a spate of Indian actors being approached for Hollywood films, it’s now the turn of our desi Khiladi Kumar to romance a Hollywood actress. Rumour has it that Akshay Kumar could be teamed up with sexy actress Salma Hayek in Carving Dreams Entertainment’s project with Los Angeles based Hollywood Studios International.
Although the two companies aren’t revealing much about the film, a source tells us, “Irrfan Khan too has been approached for the film and this one will be a Hollywood-Bollywood co-production.” The two companies have signed a $ 100 million (Rs 400 crore approx.) deal to produce five films over the next two to three years.
Announcing the deal, Mr. Bunty Bahl, Director, Carving Dreams Entertainment said,

The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum located in Agra, India.
The Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan commissioned it as a mausoleum for his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Construction began in 1632 and was completed in approximately 1648. Some dispute surrounds the question of who designed the Taj Mahal; it is clear a team of designers and craftsmen were responsible for the design, with Ustad Ahmad Lahauri considered the most likely candidate as the principal designer.
The Taj Mahal (sometimes called "the Taj") is generally considered the finest example of Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements of Persian, Turkish, Indian, and Islamic architectural styles. While the white domed marble mausoleum is the most familiar part of the monument, the Taj Mahal is actually an integrated complex of structures. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 when it was described as a "universally admired masterpiece of the world's heritage.
The Colosseum or Coliseum,
originally the Flavian Amphitheatre (Latin: Amphitheatrum Flavium, Italian Anfiteatro Flavio or Colosseo), is a giant amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy. Originally capable of seating around 50,000 spectators, it was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles. It was built on a site just east of the Roman Forum, with construction starting between 70 and 72 AD under the emperor Vespasian. The amphitheatre, the largest ever built in the Roman Empire, was completed in 80 AD under Titus, with further modifications being made during Domitian's reign.
The Colosseum remained in use for nearly 500 years with the last recorded games being held there as late as the 6th century — well after the traditional date of the fall of Rome in 476. As well as the traditional gladiatorial games, many other public spectacles were held there, such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on Classical mythology. The building eventually ceased to be used for entertainment in the early medieval era. It was later reused for such varied purposes as housing, workshops, quarters for a religious order, a fortress, a quarry and a Christian shrine.
Although it is now in a severely ruined condition due to damage caused by earthquakes and stone-robbers, the Colosseum has long been seen as an iconic symbol of Imperial Rome and is one of the finest surviving examples of Roman architecture. It is one of modern Rome's most popular tourist attractions and still has close connections with the Roman Catholic Church and the Pope leads a torchlit "Way of the Cross" procession to the amphitheatre each Good Friday.
Chichen Itza (from Yucatec Maya chich'en itza',
"At the mouth of the well of the Itza") is a large pre-Columbian archaeological site built by the Maya civilization located in the northern center of the Yucatán Peninsula, present-day Mexico.
Chichen Itza was a major regional center in the northern Maya lowlands from the Late Classic through the Terminal Classic and into the early portion of the Early Postclassic period. The site exhibits a multitude of architectural styles, from what is called “Mexicanized” and reminiscent of styles seen in central Mexico to the Puuc style found among the Puuc Maya of the northern lowlands. The presence of central Mexican styles was once thought to have been representative of direct migration or even conquest from central Mexico, but most contemporary interpretations view the presence of these non-Maya styles more as the result of cultural diffusion.
Archaeological data, such as evidence of burning at a number of important structures and architectural complexes, suggest that Chichen Itza's collapse was violent. Following the decline of Chichen Itza's hegemony, regional power in the Yucatán shifted to a new center at Mayapan.
According to the American Anthropological Association, the actual ruins of Chich'en Itza are federal property, and the site’s stewardship is maintained by Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History (Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia, INAH). The land under the monuments, however, is privately-owned by the Barbachano family.
Machu Picchu (IPA pronunciation:
['mɑ.tʃu 'pik.tʃu]) (Quechua: Machu Pikchu Old Peak; sometimes called the "Lost City") is a pre-Columbian city created by the Inca Empire.
It is located at 2,430 m (7,970 ft) on a mountain ridge. Machu Picchu is located above the Urubamba Valley in Peru, about 70 km (44 mi) northwest of Cusco. Forgotten for centuries by the outside world, although not by locals, it was brought back to international attention by archaeologist Hiram Bingham in 1911, who made the first scientific confirmation of the site and wrote a best-selling work about it.
Statue of the Christ Redeemer, Brazil
The idea for *****ing a large statue atop Corcovado had been around since the mid 1850s, when Catholic priest Pedro Maria Boss requested financing from Princess Isabel to build a large religious monument. Princess Isabel did not think much of the idea, which was completely dismissed in 1889, when Brazil became a Republic, with laws mandating the separation of church and state.
The second proposal for a large landmark statue on the mountain was made in 1921 by the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro. The archdiocese organized an event called Semana do Monumento ("Monument Week") to attract donations, which came mostly from Brazilian Catholics. The designs considered for the "Statue of the Christ" included a representation of the Christian cross, a statue of Jesus with a globe in his hands, and a pedestal symbolizing the world. Eventually the statue of Christ the Redeemer with open arms was chosen.
Local engineer Heitor da Silva Costa was chosen to oversee the construction of the new monument, to be designed by Polish-French monument sculptor Paul Landowski. A group of engineers and technicians studied Landowski's submissions and the decision was made to build the structure out of reinforced concrete (designed by Albert Caquot) instead of steel, more suitable for the cross-shaped statue. The outer layers of the statue are soapstone, chosen for its enduring qualities and ease of use. The stone for the monument was taken from Limhamn, in Malmö, Sweden.
The monument was opened on October 12, 1931.
In October 2006, on the statue's 75th anniversary, Archbishop of Rio Cardinal Eusebio Oscar Scheid consecrated a chapel (named for the patron saint of Brazil - Nossa Senhora Aparecida) under the statue. This allows Catholics to hold baptisms and weddings there.
Petra (from πέτρα "petra", rock in Greek; Arabic: البتراء, Al-Butrā)
It is an archaeological site in Jordan, lying in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of Arabah (Wadi Araba), the large valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba.
It is famous for having many stone structures carved into the rock. The long-hidden site was revealed to the Western world by the Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt in 1812.
It was famously described as "a rose-red city half as old as time" in a Newdigate prize-winning sonnet by John William Burgon. Burgon had not actually visited Petra, which remained accessible only to Europeans accompanied by local guides with armed escorts, until after World War I.
The Great Wall of China
is a series of stone and earthen fortifications in China, built, rebuilt, and maintained between the 5th century BC and the 16th century to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire during the rule of successive dynasties.
Several walls, referred to as the Great Wall of China, were built since the 5th century BC, the most famous being the one built between 220 BC and 200 BC by the first Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang. That wall was much further north than the current wall, built during the Ming Dynasty, and little of it remains.
The Great Wall is the world's longest human-made structure, stretching over approximately 6,400 km (4,000 miles) from Shanhai Pass in the east to Lop Nur in the west, along an arc that roughly delineates the southern edge of Inner Mongolia.
